EXCLUSIVE REPRESENTATION | Grabner Vasja

About the artist

The series of paintings by the Slovenian artist Vasja Grabner reflect a part of human thinking, which is caused by the classifying labelling of the world of thought. Everyone has his own set of thoughts. An elaborated opinion - thought labels - which he gives to everything he sees, feels and thinks. Therefore, he does not see his life and the world as they are, but as he believes they are. Vasja Grabner often chooses the combination of painted, raw concrete or strikingly dense, monochrome backgrounds combined with monolithic motifs, thus symbolizing the thought concepts perceived by the individual. Outside this reality there is a new dimension. With the note apparently stuck to the paintings, the artist symbolizes the labelled thought, which more or less senselessly categorizes perception. «Racism, homophobia, nationalism, political affiliation are examples of the emphasized consciousness», says Vasja Grabner, «which create conflict potential in the individual». The artist gave numerous lectures at the Business Faculty in Ljubljana and at the international advertising festival Sempl in Portorož in Slovenia, teaching the findings of his many years of research. He has received many awards for his work at home and abroad.
